Saturday 17th/Sunday 18th May 2014 - Carlisle stopover
Askham Cycle Ride - 9.5 miles
After driving down from Scotland Saturday we stayed in the Premier Inn near Carlisle, just off the M6. We woke ot a sunny Sunday, and decided to do a short cycle ride East of Penrith near the village of Askham.
The route was undulating back lanes and minor roads with a headwind, but pleasant enough views. no real wow-factor, but fairly pleasant cycling when out of the head wind.
After a few hills we rested at a plessant spot near the stone bridge shown, before pressing on.
Nice open views......
We finished back at the village after a couple of hours, and had an ice cream at the village shop before heading off for the drive back home.
Our Cycle Score: 6.5/10
