We arrived to a very wet Patterdale on Monday 5th September, and by the Tuesday morning awoke to floods across from the Patterdale Hotel.
The beck had flooded and emptied itself across the fields, almost flooding the hotel overflow car park. We abandoned any hopes of walking and elected to shop at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. A trek of 90 mins or so but dry at least, and no floods.
This set the tone for the whole trip and we managed just one low level short walk in the rain, the fells remained covered in low cloud.
8th September 2011 Dalemain & Dacre
(Pathfinder guide Eastern Lakeland Walk#6 4.5 Miles)
We set off on a damp morning at 09:30 after a hearty Patterdale breakfast. Parking was free at Dalemain House just up the road north of Ullswater.
The route was low and flat, and a combination of fields, tracks, roads and paths over just 4.5 miles. Not a splendid route and not a splendid day as it rained heavily near the village of Dacre.
I have tried some HDR (High Dynamic Range) shots, which entails taking 3 shots of each scene at exposures above and below the norm (pushed 2 stops above and below the normal exposure). This is then processed in software later, taking the dynamic details and combining into one shot. The results can be quite natural or very un-natural depending upon the effect required. I have annotated which are HDR shots.

We did pass Grasmere on another rainy day and I grabbed a few shots:
