Eden Camp 24th June 2011

Eden Camp 24th June 2011

With the prospect of possible rain and late-ish night we decided upon a relaxing day, and a short drive from Barker Stakes Farm to Eden Camp.

Eden Camp is an ex prisoner of war camp from the second world war that housed mainly Italian POW`s.
It is now a museum utilising the POW huts for displays covering all manner of aspects of the war (not just the camp itself). It covers a vast array of subject matter relating to the war with each hut (there are 20+ huts) having a differing theme. It is not just a display of war memorabilia in standard museum glass cabinets, but themed areas and mock ups of war time buildings such as shops, street scenes, inside a submarine, living conditions in the huts, the list goes on. Admission was a value beating £5.50 per adult and we spend 3-4 hours here, but you could spend much longer if you chose to read the descriptions in more detail.

My sad face was not one of disappointment or boredom, but one attempting to convey the serious nature of a POW camp. I cheered up for the last picture having found a hiding place.

Our Attraction Score: 8/10
