Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

17th November - Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

We arrived around 19:30 to a almost full overflow car  park.
However, the support act "Fools Gold" were already in full swing and we went straight into the arena with no queues and found our seats in block 105 just as the support were finishing.

By this time it was close to 20:00, and the Chilli Peppers hit the stage around 20:50 with their new song "Monarchy of Roses". A track that starts off a little subdued before breaking out into a good sing-a-long chorus.

The light show was very good, and the multiple very large screens above the stage projected close ups of the band and animated images. The sound was excellent and "Flea" on bass guitar pounded around the stage, all the while rocking backwards and forwards with unbelievable energy.

The crowd cheered as Dani California was introduced, singing along loudly.

Another new tune, "Look around" was played. So many good new tunes on the new album!

The crowd erupted as the familiar  bass line  for "The other side" pounded through the arena, voices raising the roof!

"Rain Dance Maggy" and a strange rendition of "Fascist Groove Thing" (Heaven 17 - Sheffield band!) followed soon after. "Under the Bridge" and "Californication" were expected and we were not dissapointed as both were played perefectly, the band not letting up with their energy throughout.

Finishing their set with "By The Way" the band left the stage with the crowd wanting more.

Returning they started a jam session, followed by 3 more songs. It was at this point we left, wanting to get away from the ineviatable rush.

A very entertaining evening and would not hesitate to see the "Chilli Peppers" again as the band put so much energy into their performance.

Our Gig Score: 8/10
