Lake District - Monday 20th April 2015 - Wildlife Parks

Monday 20th April 2015

Lake District Wildlife Park

We woke to a nice sunny day, and decided on a wildlife watching type day with a morning at the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, and an afternoon at the Lakes Bird of Prey Centre near Penrith.

A 30 min or so drive north of Bassenthwaite and we arrived at the Lake District Wildlife Park.
Admission was a reasonable £8.95, it's not perhaps a full day attraction, unless you waited to drop onto the various feeding times/demos throughout the day, we were there about ninety minutes.

The 70-300mm zoom stayed on, hand held, results not too bad.

This fella is not too sharp as it's zoomed and cropped, but not bad considering how high up in the tree he (or she) was.

The wild cat was taken through fencing with the widest aperture, which you can just see, but just about acceptable (for me)

The eagle was a good bit closer and came out pretty sharp.

We stopped to see the Bird of Prey demo, even though that's where we would be heading for a similar show at Penrith!

Most shots cropped, and some better(sharper) than others. Those birds were fast though!

The demo was about half an hour or so, and we left after this, catching a shot of a Robin on a fence outside the park.

Lakeland Bird Of Prey Centre

This place is located about 5 miles out of Penrith, and the show starts at 2pm. We had a Travelzoo voucher for tea and cream scones plus admission for £7 each. Normal admission is £8.50 each. So we arrived in plenty of time to take the tea and scones sat in the small tea room. Then a short time to look over the birds in a large lawned area with aviaries around the outside.

The display area is a large grassy flat surrounded by walls to one side and open meadow to the other. The talk is very informative, humorous, and if you stay the full time (we did) lasting about 90 mins- 2 Hours.

Had an opportunity for a go with the big leather gauntlet!

Enjoyable day and well worth the money, for both attractions.
