Liverpool - Goodison Park (Everton) Tour
Monday 11th May 2015
We drove to Liverpool on the Monday morning with a pick up in Gainsborough for my Mum and Aunt, making a total of six of us with Susan and me, and Susan's Mum & Dad.
A tour had been arranged of Goodison Park, as a surprise for the Father-in-law. Bill is 81 years old and has been an Everton fan all his life (I married into a family of Scousers), he used to be a season ticket holder but had never done the tour.
We arrived in Liverpool late at nearly 12 noon, due to roadworks etc, with the tour book for 1pm it did not leave much time to park up and sort out a taxi for myself and Bill.
However after abandoning our car to Susan to find a parking space, we walked a short distance near the Dock area and flagged down a Taxi, just making it to Goodison Park reception at 1pm.
There was only three people on the tour, ourselves and a guy from London, and two tour guides.
The tour started around the executive suite, the bar areas, and corridors with pictures of the team throughout the years.
Whilst not a fan of the club (or football) myself, the guides did make it interesting with lots of information and stories about the history of the club.
There were not many trophies on display but the guide did explain only so many artefacts can be displayed and there were literally hundreds of items in safe storage elsewhere (Susan - "yeah right, they're all at Anfield")
After a look around the facilities we were taken off to the stadium and pitch for a view and more information on the stadium itself and upkeep of the grass etc.....
Bill very happy to be in the Stadium of Dreams!"
Looking up for Divine Inspiration!
The Directors' Office!
Above is the visiting team's facilities (i.e. basic) note the standard bath!
Everton Team facilities including hydrotherapy baths.
"Nothing but the best is good enough"
Heading off from the changing rooms to the players tunnel and the Z car theme tune blaring out............ but no crowd on the other side!
The tour finished with a few minutes in the press/conference facilities and Bill took opportunity to have a few words with the manager.
He didn't have much to say though in reply!
The tour was over two hours and well worth the money (about £12), recommended whether a fan of the club or not.
We called a taxi, and headed back to the City centre to meet the womenfolk at the shops.
