Kentallen Cycle Ride

Thursday already, and another cycle ride on the cards as the weather looked unsettled again.
A short drive along the loch to Glencoe village and we parked in the village centre car park, unhooked the bikes and set off along the cycle path following the main road towards South Ballacullish.

There are plans to provide a traffic-free cycle route all the way from Oban to Fort William. At the moment there are many sections that are, but the traffic- free section ends a few miles up the road from Glencoe, the option then is a ferry across Loch Linnhe and follow the minor track there, or dodge lorries on the main road.

Our route today though, was completely traffic free, (except for a self- inflicted diversion through Ballaculish village).

Soon we diverted off left following the old railway track cycle path to Kentallen along the shores of Loch Linnhe.

It was a very pleasant, flat and smooth route with nice scenery and views across the Loch.

You can see how close it follows the shoreline for much of the way.

Low cloud over them hills, still quite photogenic though.

The end point at Kentallen and the Holly Tree hotel. Nice views from the room balconies!

Drinks & Cake!

The pier at the hotel, thats me on the end!

Going back to Glencoe, and still marvelling at the views

A short diversion up to North Ballaclullish over the bridge.

View from the bridge

A heron nesting spotted in the trees above the main road.

Having finished the bike ride by very early afternoon we decided to take a drive down to Oban following the coast road. Oban was much busier than Fort William. We browsed the shops a bit, and had a sandwich and cake in a cafe before heading back.  There are many traffic free cycle paths along this way (another day!), but we did pull in to take a few shots of Stalker Castle on the way back.

Our Cycle Ride Score: 8/10
