Eas Chia-Aig Waterfalls

Pathfinder Guide:Fort William/Ben Nevis (Walk #12  Cameron Country) 7 Miles

Tuesday morning saw sunshine, and the forecast for the day was good.

A perfect day for a walk, but something none too strenuous as we had not tackled any high hills of note since late 2013. We picked out a nice easy sounding route from the Pathfinder guidebook near Loch Arkaig, and the Eas Chia-aig waterfalls north of Fort William.

After several miles of narrow twisting roads on leaving the main road we parked up, and set off crossing a bridge, pausing at the falls. It was only a few minutes after this that we both thought the terrain looked familiar, and the penny finally dropped.

We had visited Scotland several years ago, staying near Oban, and had picked a walk off a source on the internet..... you`ve guessed........ this same one!

These shots were actually taken at the falls when we returned from the walk, as I wanted to try some techniques using a very dark neutral density filter that cuts the light by 10 f-stops to give some special effects on moving water. A 4 minute exposure time was required for each shot and I took more, so a few did not work out! Susan waited in the car!

Anyway we digress........ the walk was pleasant, but not too exciting!

Most of any views of the loch were hidden by the woodland for a few miles, but the day was warm and the track pleasant and easy enough. There were a few smaller falls along the way.

The view did open out after a while.

A good wide track led out to mountain views, and brought us close to the destination of the Inver Mallie Bothy.

The bothy is best accessed by walking further on past it, and back tracking off the main track (as the main track does not lead to the bothy). A small crossing point leads across a stream, and then grassy track to the bothy itself.

Nearly There!

It is a pretty remote place, and being there in the middle of nowhere did seem somewhat eerie.

Plenty of saws though!!

The basic accomodation, at least it would be dry!

Even a visitors book!

Ate lunch, let's get out of here!

Pause to admire yet another waterfall.

The walk was pleasant, especially on such a nice sunny day, without being spectacular. OK for a stroll in nice surroundings for an easy day.

Our Walk Score: 6.5/10
